Stay Cool!!!

Know the signs of overheating in your dog. Stay aware of their condition and keep them cool during this summer heat!!

Symptoms:

  • Heavy panting.
  • Excessive thirst & drooling
  • Elevated body temperature. (Normal temp. ranges ~99.5-~102.5 degrees fahrenheit)
  • “Glazed over” eyes
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea, possibly bloody
  • Increased heart rate (Normal heart rate ranges ~60-~140 beats per minute depending on their activity level)
  • Bright/dark red tongue and gums OR dry pale gums
  • Staggering, weakness, collapse
  • Seizure
  • Unconsciousness

What to do if you think your dog is overheating:

  • Get out of the sun & heat immediately
  • Offer fresh *cool water (do not force) but NO ice
  • Wet them with *cool water, especially their paw pads
  • Transport to nearest Veterinary clinic (even if you may be unsure if your dog is actually overheated at least the veterinary clinic can check their temperature and the appropriate measures if needed; better safe than sorry) If possible, call the clinic ahead of time to let them know you are on your way in and tell them your dogs symptoms.

*Cool water should not be too cold or with added ice in order to not shock the dogs system by being too cold too fast.

Does your dog’s have bad breath??

Dogs need regular dental care just like we do in order to combat bad breath, dental disease, gum disease, and more serious illnesses. Also, just like us, dog’s dental health is a key part to keeping the rest of their body healthy as well.
